PACKING FOR THE BREAK
January in northern Michigan means single digits are possible and snow is likely. Pack for cold, but expect time indoors as well.
CLOTHES
- 2–3 casual outfits (jeans, sweatpants, comfortable layers)
- 2–3 long-sleeve shirts or flannels
- 1 heavy winter coat
- 1 sweatshirt or fleece (indoor layer)
- Thermal base layer (top and bottom)
- Warm hat, gloves, and scarf
- Warm socks (wool or thermal recommended) — bring extras
- 1 pair waterproof or insulated winter boots
- 1 pair indoor shoes or slippers
- Pajamas
- Underwear and socks for the full stay
You’ll spend most of the weekend indoors. Bring what’s comfortable, not what looks good.
CABIN ESSENTIALS
- Sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket for a twin-size bunk
- Pillow
- Bath towel and washcloth
- Shampoo and soap
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Deodorant and personal care items
OTHER MUST-HAVES
- Bible, notebook, and pen
- Insulated water bottle
- Phone charger
- Any medications in original containers
CAMP STORE MONEY
The “Red Canoe” camp store exists to support the camp experience, not compete with it. It’s a place to grab a forgotten essential, pick up some Lake Ann Camp gear, or take home a small reminder of a meaningful weekend.
Nothing in the Red Canoe is required. Everything is optional and intentionally chosen to fit camp life.
- Cash and cards are accepted
What Not to Bring
We want you to be present, focused, and safe. Please leave these at home:
- Alcohol and drugs
- Tobacco / E-cigarettes / Vape pens
- Tablets or gaming devices
- Expensive jewelry
- Weapons of any kind
- Valuables that can be lost
If losing it would ruin your weekend, it may be better left at home.
Final Note
If you pack from this list and follow the clothing recommendations above, you’ll arrive ready for a great weekend at Lake Ann Camp!
